One Health Seminar: Emergence of Echinococcus multilocularis (the "fox tapeworm") in Canada
Date and Time
Location
McLaughlin Library, Room 384 (Florence Partridge Room) and online via Teams
Details
Echinococcus multilocularis is a zoonotic parasite that historically was only thought to occur in wildlife in parts of the Canadian arctic, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. However, over the last 20 years the parasite has emerged as a significant infection of wild canids, and a significant pathogen of both dogs and people, across Canada. This seminar will focus on data from Ontario and the response of the public health community. Predicted future changes in the geographic risk area across Canada will be discussed.
This seminar will be featuring Dr. Andrew Peregrine, Department of Pathobiology, OVC.
For those joining us in person, we will have pizza!
