Student Success At HackerNest Construct

Several students from the School of Computer Science registered and competed in the first HackerNest Construct Hackathon over the February 22nd/23rd weekend.

The hackathon brought together 190 members of the tech community (including 130 hackers, of which 60 were students) from Toronto and surrounding areas to work with next generation devices such as the Leap Motion, the MYO Armband, Kiwi Move, Ouya, the Raspberry Pi, and others. The goal - build something awesome. Of the 33 teams who started the competition, 17 made it to demo day.

Open Data Day Hackathon Results

This weekend approximately 30 people - students, staff, and faculty of the University of Guelph, and members from the Guelph community - gathered in the Science Complex Atrium to take part in the first Open Data Day Hackathon.

Sponsored by the City of Guelph, the University of Guelph, and the College of Physical and Engineering Sciences, teams of coders and non-coders came together with a goal of developing tools that used, processed, analyzed, or helped further expand the City's open data warehouse.

The event will be held in the Science Complex Atrium, February 22nd through 23rd in honour of International Open Data Day (held February 22nd).

Who is this event for? Everybody. If you're a citizen, a student, a teacher, a researcher, a designer, a modeller, an ideas person, or if you're just interested in improving your city and meeting other like-minded folks, the Open Data Day Hackathon is for you.

PhD Student Jamileh Yousefi

At Guelph – Featuring SoCS PhD Student Jamileh Yousefi

Jamileh is building algorithms to identify different types of neuromuscular diseases. She came to the University of Guelph from Concordia University with a Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence, and is supervised by Professors Andrew Hamilton-Wright and Stefan Kremer.
