March 22: The New Standards of Food Safety

According to Sylvain Charlebois, Associate Dean of the College of Management and Economics, the new normal in food and agriculture will demand more collaboration between stakeholders. Competing businesses will need to share data and costs, as well as build strategies set on converging interests. In the end, effective food traceability methods will rely heavily on increased teamwork among former rivals.

March 21: Guelph Business Students Among Top Ten in Canada

Guelph Business students Mary Kennedy Crawford and Alyssa de Hoop have been short-listed among an elite group of finalists, for Canada’s Next Top Ad Exec 2013. They qualified after two rounds of judging and were reviewed against a group of 114 submissions from 30+ business schools.

March 20: The CMESA Raises Funds through Creative Initiatives

The College of Management and Economics Students' Association represents the interests of students pursuing their Bachelor of Commerce degree, and provides them with opportunities to attend conferences, competitions, social and networking events and resources for growth. The CMESA raises funds for various organizations throughout the year, and the group has been involved with two recent events - 5 Days for the Homeless and the CMESA Dash of Colour.

March 18: NBA Strategies that Pay Off in the Workplace

The Globe and Mail featured a selection of research conducted by business school faculty in Canadian schools who seek answers to practical and philosophical business questions. One article in particular features research conducted by the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management with assistance from Sara Mann, Associate Professor from the Department of Business at the University of Guelph.

March 13: Is the Time Right for Significant Change in Universities?

Is the time right for significant change – perhaps even a fundamental paradigm shift within higher education? What would such a shift look like? And to what extent might one already be well underway? Julia Christensen Hughes, dean of the College of Management and Economics, discusses major changes in high education and how those may affect universities.

March 12: CIHR Cafe Scientifique

On Monday, March 25th with support from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), through the Café Scientifique Program, the College of Management and Economics is pleased to present an open dialogue entitled Obesity, Diabetes and Nutrition across the Lifespan: Implications for Health and Food Security.  The event will be held in the Trillium Room at the Holiday Inn Guelph Hotel and Conference Centre from 7:00pm - 9:00pm.

March 11: CME Students Work with Interdisciplinary Group to Explore Sustainability Solutions

Four graduate students, including two from the College of Management and Economics, have come together over their interest in sustainability to learn from each other and to gain insight into their own fields of study. Based on their combined research, the group wrote a paper entitled, Paradox and Dialogue: Ecology, Management and Food Sustainability, which was recently accepted at the Agriculture, Food and Human Value Society Annual Conference. The group will speak at the Conference whose 2013 theme is "Toward Sustainable Foodscapes and Landscapes.”
