The new accounting co-op program offered by the College of Management and Economics was mentioned today in The Globe and Mail's weekly Business School news roundup.  An excerpt from the article follows: 

Add the University of Guelph’s College of Management and Economics to a growing list of business schools offering a co-op education in accounting.

Guelph’s first regular co-op class will begin in fall, 2013, but a limited number of 15 or so top students will be offered placements for work terms next summer.

Olympic athlete Reid Coolsaet doesn't exercise like you or me.

“I only ran 14 k this morning,” Coolsaet says, deadpan. “I'll do 16 this afternoon. It's a light day.”

His light day would send many others to bed for a week. Or leave them gasping for air on the side of a road.

But Coolsaet will be competing in the 42.2 kilometre Olympic marathon, and gunning to do it in less than two hours, 10 minutes — a world-class time.

Lianne Foti is an Assistant Professor and Faculty Advisor for Marketing and Consumer Studies who shares CME’s value of sustainability through her role as co-founder and executive director of ‘my world, my choice!’, an educational program that teaches students about sustainability and challenges them to grow as leaders in their schools and communities.  

A documentary that tracks a University of Guelph graduate’s journey to the 2012 Olympic Games is set to debut Saturday in Hamilton and Guelph.

The University of Guelph will be holding the first event of the Campus in Community Summer Lecture Series at 10 Carden Street on Thursday, July 19th and all residents are invited.

Professor Trent Tucker from the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management will discuss how to turn a bland PowerPoint presentation into an engaging multimedia masterpiece, and professor Lianne Foti from the Department of Marketing and Cosumer Studies will teach about the My World, My Choice! educational program.

Brent MacKenzie, Associate Professor in the Department of Marketing and Consumer Studies, caught the eye of a reporter from Guelph Mercury who recently discovered his research topic, "Dark Tourism in HELL," while exploring various research interests at the University of Guelph.

The College of Management and Economics is delighted to announce that students in the Bachelor of Commerce Accounting major will be able to register in a new accounting co-op program starting fall 2013.  In addition, a limited number of current students will be able to commence their first co-op term beginning summer 2013.  Congratulations to Professor Fred Pries and the Department of Business accounting team for their accomplishments.

Associate Dean, Dr. Sylvain Charlebois, and Economics Professor, Bram Cadsby, were recently in China to sign exchange program agreements with the South Western University in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. One agreement will support a new graduate program in Financial Economics to be launched next year in Guelph. A second agreement will support the launch of an undergraduate exchange program between the two universities to support CME’s Management in Economics and Finance major.
