Fall 2018 Course Selection Communications

The four emails below were sent to all currently registered undergraduate students on the Guelph campus (excluding Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students) with information about important changes to Fall 2018 course selection. Please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions for more information.

Email sent on June 14, 2018:

Dear Student,

Just a reminder that Fall 2018 course enrolment windows begin to open for continuing students on Monday, June 18, 2018. To find your specific enrolment date and time, please see the course selection information page.

All students are encouraged to select courses as soon as possible after their window opens. Course selection will continue until September 14th, however, students who do not enrol promptly may find that access to their desired or required course sections may not be possible.

If a preferred section is full at the time of your window opening, select another section and enrol in it. You can change your section later if space becomes available. TIP: You may place more than one section of the same course in your preferred sections on WebAdvisor so that you have a back up option ready if your first choice is full.

Fall 2018 course enrolment will remain open until Friday, September 14, 2018 with two planned exceptions. Students will be prevented from managing F18 course enrolment on WebAdvisor from 8 a.m. on Monday, July 16 until 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 17 and from 8 a.m. on Monday, August 13 until 8 a.m. on Tuesday, August 14 to allow for system maintenance.

Some first-year sections have been temporarily restricted to students who have 4.50 or less credits (completed, in progress, or pre-selected). Students who have more than 4.50 credits (completed, in progress, or pre-selected) who wish to enrol in a first-year course that is restricted, may be able to do so beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 17 when most restrictions will be removed.

The final examination schedule for Fall 2018 courses will be available on WebAdvisor on Tuesday, August 14.

Please note that students with a financial sanction will be unable to select courses until the outstanding balance has been cleared.

Dear Undergraduate/Associate Diploma Student on the Guelph Campus,

Our records indicate that you may be eligible to register in Fall 2018 courses. If you do not intend on registering at the University of Guelph in the Fall of 2018, please disregard this email.

Course enrolment windows for F18 will open to continuing students beginning on Monday, June 18, 2018 based on credits completed and in progress, from highest to lowest, with the last window opening on Thursday, June 28. You can find the number of courses completed and in progress by running your Unofficial Transcript or your Program/Academic Evaluation on WebAdvisor.

In order for student-athletes to participate in practices and competitions, they may begin selecting courses on June 18 regardless of number of credits. Email sent on April 4, 2018:

Dear Undergraduate Guelph Campus Student,

Further to the email with the subject line "Improvements to Course Selection" sent to you on February 13th, we are writing to update you on the changes we are making to Fall 2018 course enrolment and to suggest a few steps for you to take prior to leaving campus at the end of the semester.

TIMING OF FALL 2018 COURSE ENROLMENT

Course enrolment windows will open to current students beginning on June 18, 2018. Enrolment windows will open based on number of credits completed and in progress, from highest to lowest. Further details will be communicated to students in May via our course selection information webpage and email.

STEPS TO TAKE PRIOR TO THE END OF WINTER 2018 SEMESTER

  1. Choose your courses. The Fall 2018 course timetable is now available on WebAdvisor. Review your program requirements for the fall semester by consulting the appropriate Academic Calendar or running your Academic Evaluation on WebAdvisor.
  2. Once you have selected your courses, add them to your Preferred Sections on WebAdvisor in preparation for your course enrolment window date and time in June.
  3. Contact your Program Counsellor or Faculty Advisor, only if you need advice about course selection or if you require their signature on a course waiver form.
  4. Contact the Course Instructor, if you require their signature on a course waiver form in order to enrol in a course (e.g. the course prerequisite is listed as "Instructor consent is required"). If the instructor is "TBA" on WebAdvisor, consult the appropriate department's undergraduate office. (Tip: the department offering the course is listed in the course description found in the Academic Calendar. You can access the course description directly on WebAdvisor by clicking on the "Section Name and Title" in your section search results.)
  5. Submit any course waiver forms required to our office by dropping them off in person to the Enrolment Services counter on Level 3 of the University Centre during our office hours or by scanning and emailing the form to es@uoguelph.ca at any time.

Email sent on February 13, 2018:

Dear Undergraduate Guelph Campus Student,

The Office of Registrarial Services is improving course selection. We are making various changes that will allow you more time to better plan your schedules and ensure a more equitable and consistent approach to course selection windows.

First, course selection for fall 2018 will begin in June instead of March. This will allow you to complete your winter semester before you are asked to select your fall courses. As well, you will not have to worry about planning your fall schedule and enrolling in courses while completing winter midterms and assignments.

Course selection for students planning to take summer 2018 semester courses will begin March 5.

Other improvements we are considering include leaving course selection open from the time it opens in June until the end of the add period in September and improving the priority order for accessing course selection windows.

More information about these and other changes will be forthcoming, so please look for subsequent emails from our office and consult our course enrolment information website regularly.

Sincerely,

Ray Darling
University Registrar
