Specimen Type/Volume1) Lymph node aspirate in saline, one glass slide of lymph node aspirate, and copy of cytology report. 2) 0.5 mL EDTA blood and copy of CBC.

Collection Protocol1) Aspirate enlarged lymph node and prepare one smear (air dried) and place the rest of the sample in an EDTA tube by rinsing the needle and syringe with 2-3 mL of saline. The saline should appear slightly cloudy indicating sufficient cells. If possible, add 1-2 drops of serum which will keep cells stable for 72 hours if refrigerated or kept on ice. If cells are in saline without serum, they are stable for 48 hours at refrigeration temperature. Submit copy of recent cytology report of lymph node. 2) Collect EDTA blood which is stable for 72 hours if refrigerated. Submit a fresh blood smear and a copy of recent CBC.
