"Cooking Up History: 30 Years of the Culinary Historians of Canada"

Please join us for a very special event that celebrates the great work being done by history students!
On Tuesday, April 2 from 3:00-5:00pm students who took Dr. Becky Beausaert's Fall 2023 Food History course launch their new exhibit, "Cooking Up History."

The launch will take place in the Whitelaw rooms and the exhibit will be in the gallery next door on the second floor of the library.
This experiential learning project was produced with the help of Archival & Special Collections and Melissa McAfee's HIST*3560 course.

At the launch, you’ll hear from keynote speakers including:
* Chef Jamie Kennedy, Jamie Kennedy Kitchens
* Fiona Lucas, Food Historian and Co-Founder, Culinary Historians of Canada

"Cooking Up History" commemorates the Culinary Historians of Canada’s 30th anniversary and celebrates the recipients of the Taste Canada Hall of Fame awards, which the Culinary Historians sponsor. The exhibit consists of cookbooks written by the thirty-five food writers, historians, chefs, and television personalities who have been honoured by the Hall of the Fame, including Catharine Parr Traill, Edna Staebler, Jean Paré, and Anita Stewart. Several of the living authors are expected to be in attendance. The launch will consist of short remarks from Matthew Hayday, Fiona Lucas (food historian and co-founder of the Culinary Historians of Canada), undergraduate students Kelly Hughes and Katelyn McGillivray, and chef Jamie Kennedy. Recipes from some of the cookbooks on display will be available for tasting. This exhibit will also be part of UofG's Food Day Canada showcase in August.

Kindly RSVP by no later than Wednesday, March 27, 2024 to attend the launch in-person or online. Registration is now open!
