Dr. Rebecca Beausaert wins CHA Teaching Prize!

Posted on Tuesday, June 6th, 2023

Our own Dr. Rebecca (Becky) Beausaert has just won the Canadian Historical Association’s Teaching Prize in the category of “Early or Alternative Career – Canadian History.”  Dr. Beausaert has been teaching a number of courses over the past several years, including Food History and Canada and the First World War.

The CHA citation for the prize says: “Dr. Rebecca Beausaert’s innovative ways of using primary sources to teach Canadian history excited the committee. The committee was especially impressed with how Dr. Beausaert exposes students to cookbooks from Canada’s past and allows them to apply their findings to the “What Canada Ate” virtual exhibition in partnership with the University of Guelph’s Archives and Special Collections. The impacts of Dr. Beausaert’s efforts were reflected in student letters that accompanied the application package, many of which indicated that this activity was the most memorable part of the students’ undergraduate experiences.”

Read about Dr. Beauseart's work with our students on the University of Guelph cookbook archive and the "What Canada Ate" exhibitions.
