Dr. Alex Souchen Welcomes Applications for Canadian Battlefields Foundation Study Tour
Our own Dr. Alex Souchen, military and environmental historian of Canada, is UoG faculty point of contact for the 2026 Canadian Battlefields Foundation Study Tour.
Since 1996, the Canadian Battlefields Foundation has brought together over 300 students from across Canada with leading scholars to understand the role Canada played in Europe through the First and Second World Wars. This year’s tour will be held from 28 May to 13 June 2026 and will explore the Canadian roles on the Western Front, as well as Dieppe and Normandy. On site tours will be led by Professors Megan Hamilton (King’s College, London), Nicholas Wheeler (Royal Military College of Canada), Gary Sheffield (King’s College, London), and Geoffrey Hayes (University of Waterloo).
The Foundation will select twelve Canadian university students from across the country. Each successful applicant will receive a Foundation bursary. They will contribute $1000 towards the tour, which includes air and ground travel from Toronto, accommodation, and study materials. Travel costs to and from Toronto and meal costs must be defrayed by the applicant.
Application deadline: Friday 6 March 2026.
