On Thursday, November 17 from 4:00-5:30 Dr. Kristine Alexander of the University of Western Ontario will speak: "'We Must Give the Modern Girl a Training in Citizenship': The Girl Guides in Interwar England, Canada and India."

Dr. Alexander's visit is one of a series sponsored by Dr. Catherine Carstairs as part of the Graduate course History 6280, Canada: Community & Identity. This semester the course focuses on gender and women’s history in Canada, paying careful attention to how the writing of gender/women’s history has changed over time. Issues will include: feminist activism, biography, gender and the body, gender and consumption.
