Course objectives:

This course will bring together the grammar theory and skills previously acquired into a useful and practical framework which will form a foundation for further university-level study in French. Contact hours (in class and in the lab) will be spent applying theory and further developing the four language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking through group tasks and activities.

 

Learning outcomes:

A student successfully completing this course will be at the A2 (Waystage or Elementary) Level and will

  • understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).
  • communicate in simple terms about routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
  • describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

 

Requirements:

1 of FREN*1150, Grade 12U French or permission of the School of Languages and Literatures.

A Background Information Sheet must be filled out by each student and submitted on the first day of class.

 

Restrictions:

Students with native or near-native ability in French, including Francophones and French immersion students, will not be admitted to this course. This is a Priority Access Course. Some restrictions may apply during some time periods.

Recommended: Grammaire progressive du français: Avec 600 Exercices, CLÉ nouvelle édition (optional)
