Convocation is a special time during the academic year, where graduands and their guests often have the privilege of being addressed by a notable business leader, someone who the University of Guelph is conferring with an honorary doctorate in recognition of their achievements.

During the summer convocation on June 12th, the college is excited to be conferring two incredible entrepreneurial leaders with an honorary doctorate.

The College of Business and Economics co-sponsored the recent 2018 International Advertising and Branding conference, held in Wuxi, China.

Co-sponsors for the event included the School of Business at Jiangnan University, the College of Business and Economics at the University of Guelph and the International Journal of Advertising.

Professionals in the hospitality and foodservice industry were on campus last week for an interactive and engaging 3 day leadership workshop as part of a new Hospitality Leadership Certificate. This workshop was part of a collaboration between Cornell University and the University of Guelph’s School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management

Over 220 Ontario high school students travelled to campus last week, competing head-to-head in the first annual University of Guelph Business Pentathlon, hosted by the College of Business and Economics.

The Business Pentathlon was designed by U of G undergraduate business students, and invited Ontario high school students to campus to compete in five fun and challenging business-focused events, which tested their business knowledge, communication and leadership skills.

LAICOS Enterprise Hub, with the help from the College of Business and Economics at the University of Guelph and Capacity Canada, will be hosting an event to highlight the importance of social enterprise in the food industry.

LAICOS Enterprise Hub includes 10 organizations from the Kitchener to Toronto corridor who support the development of businesses and non-profits with incubation and acceleration services. The event will include interactive displays that promote the value of social enterprise in the food industry.

University of Guelph business and economics alumni are making a difference in workplaces and communities across Canada and around the world. In an effort to recognize these exceptional individuals, the College of Business and Economics is reaching out to alumni to nominate U of G business alumni for a Notable Alumni Award or the 10x10 Alumni with Impact Award.

These prestigious awards represent the highest level of recognition the College gives to its alumni, and nominations for the 2018 awards are now open.

U of G economics and finance students go beyond the textbooks each semester, learning from the first-hand experiences of prominent financial and investment leaders.

Congratulations to assistant professors Bruce McAdams and Joan Flaherty, and PhD Management candidate Josh LeBlanc, on winning a teaching and learning award this week at the Teaching and Learning Innovations Conference.

Normally, if you tell a Guelph student they’re going to be stuck in the Science Complex all weekend, perhaps even into the night, they are apprehensive to say the least. During the Improve Life Challenge, though, they jump at the chance to band together with other students, community partners, and mentors to solve some of the world’s biggest problems.
