Details
Join us for a reflective and grounding morning as we come together to honour sweetgrass and its teachings. The gathering will begin with a warm welcome, introductions, and cedar tea to share in community.
We are honoured to learn from Grandmother Kim Wheatley, who will guide us in understanding the cultural and spiritual significance of sweetgrass in Anishinaabe traditions. The event will include smudging, a traditional Indigenous practice involving the burning of sacred medicines to cleanse and prepare the space and participants for learning. A talking circle will follow, offering space for participants to reflect on the teachings from Grandmother Kim in a supportive and respectful environment. We will also learn and sing a song to the sweetgrass, offering our voices in connection and gratitude.
Weather permitting, we will conclude with a short walk to the naturalized field, where sweetgrass is being transplanted. There, we will sing to the land and the growing sweetgrass as part of this teaching.
The event will be conducted outside, so please dress accordingly.
