With sugar becoming increasingly common in today's food environment, it can be challenging to understand how what we eat impacts our energy, focus, and overall well-being. Join us for an engaging, evidence-based workshop that breaks down sugar and the glycemic index in a practical, approachable way. This session will help you understand how different foods affect blood sugar levels and provide realistic strategies to support steady energy throughout the day.
During this workshop, we will:
- Explore how blood sugar fluctuations influence energy levels, mood, and concentration
- Identify different types of sugar, where they’re found, and how they behave in the body
- Understand how sugar is broken down and its short- and long-term effects on health
- Learn what the glycemic index is and how it can be a helpful nutrition tool
- Compare high vs low glycemic index foods
- Discover healthy habits and meal-building strategies that support more stable blood sugar levels
- Participate in hands-on activities that provide nutritional knowledge on incorporating workshop learnings

About your Facilitator
Alessia Russo is a fourth-year U of G Applied Human Nutrition student, designing and facilitating the following session for U of G employees as part of her NUTR*4850 placement with Wellness@Work.
