Details
After a loss, the physical death is not the only loss we experience. While the primary loss is the death itself, people often face additional losses that affect many areas of their lives. Secondary losses may appear immediately after the death or emerge over time. Although called “secondary,” they are not secondary in importance or impact.
In this session:
- Understand the concept of secondary losses in grief
- Identify and name different types of secondary losses that may arise after a death.
- Explore changes in identity, roles, sense of purpose, and personal relationships.
- Recognize feelings of instability, vulnerability, or uncertainty about the future.
- Reflect on how loss can affect one’s sense of value, meaning, and role in relationships
