Janet Werner is a painter who
se work has focused for many years on the ?ctional portrait. Her recent pain
tings are based on
?gures drawn from popular culture -- fashion models, ?
gurines, dolls and celebrities—icons and archetypes who represent
ideals
of innocence and beauty. Divorced from their original settings and recontext
ualized in her work, the “portraits”
become vehicles for an exploration o
f the problematics of desire.
Doors open at 6:30pm
