The Centre for Scottish Studies invites members of the public and university communities to join us in welcoming Dr Patrick Wadden from Belmont Abbey College. He will be speaking on "The 'First' Kingdom of the Isles: History and Identity on Scotland's Western Periphery, 980-1060".  This talk will be followed by questions and discussion around the content of Dr Wadden's presentation.

Jan Hadlaw, Associate Professor in the School of Art, Media, Performance, and Design at York University, Toronto, and  Ben Bradley, author of British Columbia by the Road (UBC Press, 2017)    

Jean-Sébastien Macke est spécialiste de la littérature française du XIXe siècle et du théâtre lyrique et de la correspondance d’Émile Zola. Il a publié de nombreux articles sur le théâtre de Zola et a collaboré au Dictionnaire des Naturalismes (Éditions Champion, 2017).

Media: Selections from Wolves in the throne room

This session is the second in the Mud, Roots, Blood and Darkness series of Philosophy in the Dark. What horror is inspired by the very changing of the climate? How does our alienation from ‘nature’ provoke anxiety and terror? What occurs when we avoid a politics of ‘green’ affirmation and immerse ourselves in the progressive blackening of the landscape (the deforming of matter, the detritus, chthonic tunneling in the Earth’s bowels, death and negativity) or landscapes of extinction?
