CARE-AI Seminar Series: Dr. Eran Tal (Virtual)

The accuracy and fairness of machine learning models are often assumed to be separate, and to some extent conflicting, desiderata. I argue that this is a mistake that partially stems from an overly simplistic understanding of accuracy. Using insights from the philosophy of measurement, I distinguish among three sources of inaccuracy in supervised machine learning: label bias, modeling bias, and fitness bias. While the machine learning community has focused on minimizing label and modeling bias, it has tended to shift responsibility for fitness bias to users.

Creative Encounters In-Person Camps

to
We will be running STEM-themed day camps for youth going into grades 2-3 and 4-6 in the fall during the month of August. There will be 3 camps running each week of August, with each camp having a maximum capacity of 12 campers supervised by at least 2 STEM Instructors. This reduced camper capacity will allow for proper social distancing in addition to the government-mandated COVID-19 prevention safety measures that will be followed to ensure everyone’s safety while at camp.  More Information
