Professor Thomas Charles (Tom) Wilson, longtime former faculty member of the School of Computer Science at the University of Guelph, passed unexpectedly and peacefully from this life on January 8th, 2019.

Funeral services were conducted on Friday, January 11th at Mary Mother of the Church Parish in La Crosse, Wisconsin where Tom lived.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Tom in Waterloo, Ontario on Saturday, February 2nd from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM in the Great Hall of St Paul’s University College at University of Waterloo, 190 Westmount Rd N, Waterloo, ON N2L 3G5.

Maddie Gabriel, a student in the School of Computer Science, was named the recipient of the Collin Cureatz Award for Co-op Student Involvement. Maddie was nominated for the Collin Cureatz Memorial award by Laura Gatto, the Bachelor of Computing Co-op Coordinator and Luiza Antonie, an Assistant Professor in the School of Computer Science.

Keefer Rourke, a student in the School of Computer Science, was named the University of Guelph's Co-op Student of the Year 2018 - Ian Pavlinic Memorial Award for Innovation. 

Building “machines with morals” and addressing the ethics of artificial intelligence are among the goals of a new research and teaching centre announced today at the University of Guelph.

Arslan Kazmi and Wanrong Sun, current MSc students in the School of Computer Science, are among the 66 across Ontario awarded the Vector Scholarships in Artificial Intelligence (VSAI). This prestigious scholarship was presented to Arslan and Wanrong for their outstanding academic achievement while pursuing studies in a recognized AI-related master’s program.

Congratulations to Nicolas Durish and Joel Gascho, School of Computer Science students, who have each been awarded the PSEER Travel & Workshop Award! The PSEER Travel & Workshop Award is provided by the Physical Science & Engineering Education Research Centre to help fund students to attend conferences and workshops.

Mohammad Amiri-Zarandi, a Computational Science PhD student, has been awarded a Food from Thought Research Assistantship. This prestigious award was presented for Mohammad’s outstanding academic achievement along with his strong interest and commitment to research and entrepreneurialism in equitable sustainable agriculture.  

Congratulations to School of Computer Science PhD student, Samira Yousefi, and her research team, which includes Drs. Rozita Dara and Shayan Sharif, for winning the Best Graduate Student Poster Award at the 2018 Canadian Animal Health Laboratory Network (CAHLN). The CAHLN conference focuses on the dissemination of information and networking in the field of animal health diagnostics in Canada.
