Guest Lecture: Neural Network ReNNaissance & Formal Theory of Fun

Juergen Schmidhuber from the IDSIA, Switzerland will be visiting the University of Guelph on Friday, August 9 2013 in the Thornbrough Atrium at 10am.

He is a vibrant speaker and one of the pioneers in artificial neural network research and he runs a very high-profile lab. He will discuss his group's progress on a number of challenging practical problems, but he will also talk about his mathematical theory of fun which explains art, science, music, and humour!

Frosh Week World Record Event

In a few short weeks campus will be filled with new and returning students. And as is tradition the first few weeks of the semester will be filled with orientation activities.

Convocation 2013

Congratulations to all students who were awarded their undergraduate and graduate degrees as part of Convocation 2013.

In total, the School of Computer Science saw 21 of its undergraduate students walk the stage to receive their degrees.

The School of Computer Science would also like to recognize the outstanding achievements of Erich Janzen, and Michael Delong - the two students in SoCS with the highest graduating GPAs.

Learning Enhancement in the SoCS

The School of Computer Science is proud to announce that several faculty members have been awarded funding through the University of Guelph's Learning Enhancement Fund (LEF).

Associate Professors Judi McCuaig and Michael Wirth, members of the Interactive Cognitive Computing group, and Assistant Professor Daniel Gillis, will apply the LEF funds over the next year to enhance learning opportunities in several undergraduate courses.

Guelph Women in Networking Scholarship

Guelph Women in Networking (GWIN) is an organization dedicated to promoting the success of women by providing education, fostering relationships and giving back to the community.

GWIN offers one $1,000.00 scholarship to one female college or university student each year. Recipients are women who strive for academic excellence, show responsibility and leadership, are involved in their local, and scholastic community, and are working towards a career that will advocate, promote, or enhance the success of women.

Tech Showcase 2.0

The Guelph Technology and Design Cluster Co-operative, the University of Guelph School of Computer Science, and the University of Guelph Alumni Association will be presenting the second annual Guelph Technology Showcase.

This event is scheduled for January 29, 2013 from 5:00pm to 7:30 pm at the University of Guelph Science Complex Atrium. This unique Guelph event is both a career fair and a celebration of the Guelph technology community.
