Description

Dr. Jason Wilson is a bestselling Canadian historian and musician. The two-time Juno Award nominee, Canadian Reggae Music Award winner and SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship Recipient is the author of seven books, including King Alpha’s Song in a Strange Land: The Roots and Routes of Canadian Reggae (Vancouver: UBC Press, 2019) and Soldiers of Song: The Dumbells and other Canadian Concert Parties of the First World War (Wilfrid Laurier University Press, 2012). Wilson also co-authored the national bestseller The Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club: Official Centennial Publication, 1917-2017 (Toronto: McClelland & Stewart, 2016) and the award-winning Lord Stanley: The Man Behind the Cup (Fenn Publishing, 2006). As a musician, Wilson has nine albums to his credit and has performed over 2,500 across North America, Britain and Jamaica. Dr. Wilson has experienced sustained success in ‘performing history’ – that is to say, bringing history to life – for both academic and non-academic audiences with a variety of live performance projects. These projects present history through a blend of music, lecture, theatre and storytelling and have been performed at various venues – including universities, schools, historical sites, museums, theatres and music festivals – across North America.
