Professor Brent McKenzie shares research in Latvia, meets ambassador

Professor Brent McKenzie travelled to the Baltic region recently to deliver a series of academic lectures and industry workshops in Riga, Latvia in coordination with the Canadian Embassy. He spoke on the topics of the upcoming Canada/EU trade agreement (CETA), innovations and technology in the retail sector and the definition and importance of the concepts of Local and Authenticity in consumer product selection and loyalty.

College of Business and Economics welcomes new faculty members

The College of Business and Economics is starting the new academic year with two new faculty faces. Kathleen Rodenburg, assistant professor in the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management and Philippe Lassou, assistant professor of accounting in the Department of Management, officially joined the college on August 1.

Business students research economic viability of locally grown Chinese eggplant

Two University of Guelph business students recently got a taste of researching a crop that could eventually become a staple of Canada’s agriculture industry, and gained marketable skills in the process. Accounting student Patrice Bigaignon and marketing management student (now alumna) Victoria Steele contributed to a project on the future of Chinese eggplant in Canada by creating a cost of production analysis and template in collaboration with Vineland Research and Innovation Centre (Vineland).

College of Business and Economics offering Macdonald Hall tours during Homecoming

The term “homecoming” will take on additional meaning during this year’s annual celebrations being held on Saturday, September 24. In addition to watching the Guelph Gryphons take on the Western Mustangs, Homecoming attendees will also be able to tour the beautifully renovated Macdonald Hall, the new home of business at the University of Guelph.

New mock retail space explores food purchasing behaviour

Thanks to a major gift from Longo Brothers Fruit Market Inc., the College of Business and Economics at the University of Guelph will launch a mock retail space, allowing researchers to explore consumers’ food purchasing, consumption and reaction to food advertising.

CBaSE transforms students into business consultants in MGMT*4050

The Centre for Business and Student Enterprise (CBaSE) has lined up an exciting group of clients for the Fall 2016 offering of MGMT*4050, during which senior undergraduate students from across the University of Guelph will gain valuable skills by transforming into business consultants. The clients represent a range of industries including real estate, the arts and community services. Students will focus on a specific project requested by the client, such as a marketing plan, strategic plan or annual report.

New program engages senior undergraduate students in food security solutions

Senior business students looking to apply their skills to an actionable project have a new course option this September. ICON, an innovative learning opportunity developed by professors Shoshanah Jacobs and Dan Gillis, will unite senior undergraduate students from multiple disciplines to brainstorm and develop food security solutions, in partnership with the Feeding 9 Billion project. It will be an experiential learning opportunity that focuses on some of the most pressing issues affecting the global community.
