U of G launches scholarship for Lang real estate students with support from ICSC Foundation Canada
The University of Guelph is launching a new scholarship next Fall with support from the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Foundation Canada.
The new ICSC Foundation Canada Scholarship is designed to support the ICSC Foundation’s mission of creating the next generation of leaders in the retail real estate industry. The annual scholarship of $5,000 will be awarded to a Bachelor of Commerce student registered in the Real Estate major.
Lang researchers among latest SSHRC funding recipients
Two Lang researchers are among eleven University of Guelph research projects that will receive nearly $600,000 in federal funding.
The funding comes from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Development Insight Grants program aimed at supporting long-term research initiatives that address complex issues involving people and societies.

Construction on Lang Plaza is officially under way
Construction is officially under way for Lang Plaza, a new outdoor meeting space for students in front of Macdonald Hall. With plenty of green space and outdoor seating, the area will revitalize the front entrance of the business building, enhance accessibility, and provide a natural place for students to gather and connect once they are able to return to campus.
The roughly 3,360-square-metre plaza will include patio tables, benches, a remote-controlled firepit and a water fountain named after Julia Christensen Hughes, former dean of the Lang School.
DIY labs in homes will spur inventions after the coronavirus pandemic
Do-it-yourself (DIY) and at-home labs gained popularity through movies and TV shows like Breaking Bad. DIY labs are increasingly influential and may change lives — the OpenInsulin project, for example, is looking for DIY ways to produce insulin and reduce its price to US$7 from US$300. This impact will likely become even more prevalent in the new post-pandemic normal.
