Author of "The Fearless Organization: Creating Psychological Safety in the Workplace for Learning, Innovation, and Growth,” and professor at Harvard Business School, Amy Edmondson first identified the concept of psychological safety in work teams in 1999. Since then, she has observed how companies with a trusting workplace perform better. Psychological safety isn't about being nice, she says. It’s about giving candid feedback, openly admitting mistakes, and learning from each other. And she argues that kind of organizational culture is increasingly important in the modern economy.

Psychological safety is not the norm in organizations. Amy explains that it is instinctual human nature to want to look good, to divert blame, to agree with the boss, to stay silent. In hierarchies, these instincts are exacerbated. We are wired to stay safe, which directly gets in the way of learning, innovation, and growth. The good news is, psychological safety lives at the team level and so you as a leader can cultivate it in your team. In this podcast, listen to Amy talk about what psychological safety is and what it isn’t and how leaders can build psychological safety in their team.

Afterward, Linda and Evelina will facilitate a deeper dive into the topic, provide you with an opportunity to share challenges and successes with colleagues to build your personal productivity prowess.
