Collection Protocol

1) For floor sample it is recommended to use a dedicated pair of shoes for each barn. Once in the barn, place shoe covers over shoes. Walk the full length of the barn, remove shoe covers and place them into a sterile leakproof bag. Refrigerate immediately. 2) Wearing gloves, wipe the dust from the fans, feed lines, water lines, etc. with a sterile moistened gauze pad. Collect into a sterile leakproof bag. Refrigerate immediately. Do not put shoe covers on your shoes before walking through the footbath as this can interfere with Salmonella spp. isolation.
