Fix appropriately sized tissue samples in 10% neutral buffered formalin, with a tissue:formalin ratio of 1:10. Samples should be fixed for 24 h prior to trimming and processing.

Additional Information

Histopathology for food animal biopsies and field postmortems, and histopathology samples from AHL in-house food animal postmortems. 1. Additional charges apply for > 10 slides, or for mail-in postmortems with >25 pieces of fixed tissue. Please note that each individual sample included in the formalin container is counted as a separate piece of tissue, and is processed for histopathology. For samples submitted en bloc (eg avian gastrointestinal tract), representative sections will be taken from each organ and appropriate levels of intestine, and these will be counted as separate tissue pieces. 2. Additional charges (per 15 min) may apply for the pathologist to sample large or complex specimens (e.g. amputated limbs, joints, brain, lungs) submitted for diagnostic testing. See AHL LabNote 62*.3. Additional charges will apply for biopsies requiring decalcification and / or nail softening, such as digit and bone biopsies (see tests histdc and histns).
