JOB OPPORTUNITIES for History students with People's Archive of Rural Ontario (PARO)

Students have not one, but two new job opportunities with the People's Archive of Rural Ontario (PARO). They are hiring Research Assistants and Knowledge Mobilization Associate. For full job listing and how to apply, please see documents attached. 

 

Research Assistants for Spring 2021

Tasks for the position include but are not limited to:

  • soliciting a story (or following a story lead) on crisis and change in a rural context
  • documenting a story via interviews/oral history narratives or written methods
  • working with the editorial team in editing and producing stories for the archive

Interested candidates must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate study program at the University of Guelph and have an interest in storytelling and listening to/ valuing the lived experiences of others. Prior experience in interviewing and content editing (writing, audio/podcasting, videography, or photojournalism) are considered an asset.

The position will enhance the Research Assistants’ skills in interviewing, ethical research, and editing/producing content (written, audio, video, photography).

 

Knowledge Mobilization Associate

Tasks for the position include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the PARO team in soliciting, documenting and sharing stories;
  • Generating best practices and recommendations for recruiting community stories;
  • Developing knowledge mobilization initiatives to improve community knowledge and capacity and promote peer-to-peer learning;
  • Designing and producing knowledge resources in formats for non-academic audiences;
  • Assisting with a variety of communications ranging from traditional to more creative formats, including new and traditional media;
  • Attending and contributing to meetings of PARO and ROI teams;
  • Developing and facilitating communication between project and community stakeholders, especially between ROI and PARO;

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate study program at the University of GUelph and have an interest in storytelling and listening to/ valuing the lived experiences of others. Candidates should have familiarity with the concept of knowledge mobilization and have excellent oral and written communication skills. Prior experience in communicating and writing for a wide range of audiences, community-engaged research, and collaboration with diverse stakeholders are considered an asset.  Experience with audio and video technologies, social media, and design are also considered valuable.

This role will be remote for at least the next six months; candidates must have reliable access to the internet and a computer.
