Registration has been extended for the 20th annual CBS Graduate Student Symposium! The Graduate Student Symposium will include oral presentation sessions, a poster session, a catered lunch with special keynote speakers, and conclude with an event-filled grad student social at the Brass Taps, featuring trivia and other games. 

The CBS Office of Educational Scholarship and Practice (COESP) will be hosting its annual COESP Day on May 1 in Rozanski Hall. Register before April 22 COESP Day is our annual event that brings CBS instructors, staff, and students together to explore pressing questions in teaching and learning. This year, we're focusing on what it means to teach and support students in an environment of increasing enrolment and limited space.

Graduate students: Registration is now open for the 13th annual CBS Careers in Biology on April 24 and 25! The days will include speaker sessions with various experts, workshops for professional development, networking events with alumni and seasoned professionals, and professional headshots with limited spots available. 

The last One Health seminar of the winter semester will feature Dr. Whitney Preisser, Assistant Professor of Disease Ecology at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. 

Butterflies on the Brink: The Story of the Mottled Duskywing tells the story of a University of Guelph project to reintroduce an endangered butterfly. The documentary follows the research and recovery team, led Dr. Ryan Norris from the Department of Integrative Biology and biologist Jessica Linton, with support from the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory team, as they work to reintroduce the mottled duskywing butterfly to Pinery Provincial Park.

Join the CBS Office of Educational Scholarship and Practice for the next Biology Education Exchange (COESP BEE) event focused on course adaptations in first- and second-year courses and assessments in third- and fourth-year courses.

The seminar will feature Ricardo Ramirez, Adjunct Professor and independent researcher & consultant, who will speak on “How can evaluation contribute to One Health?”

Dr. Jeremy Walsh is an assistant professor of kinesiology in the Faculty of Science at McMaster University. His research focuses on characterizing the physiological mechanisms underlying the cognitive enhancing effects of exercise and exogenous ketone supplementation in humans. His work explores the effects of these interventions on cerebral blood flow, BDNF, and cognition in cognitively normal adults and adults with elevated dementia risk.

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is a university-wide competition for graduate students with an exciting challenge: to explain your thesis in a clear and engaging way, using only one slide, and in only three minutes! Both the winner and runner up of the CBS heat will receive prizes ($250 and $150 gift cards, respectively) and move on to the University of Guelph final on April 24, 2025. The winner of the university-wide competition will receive a $1,000 prize towards their tuition and will go on to the provincial final held May 15 at the University of Toronto.
