Biology Education Exchange

Have you heard the buzz?  COESP has a new initiative for Biology Educators in CBS!  The Biology Education Exchange (BEE) is a series of focused, informal, active workshops that offer an opportunity to exchange ideas, share resources, and enhance teaching activities. Join us for topics that interest you, share your innovative solutions to common challenges, gather ideas and strategies to help you navigate your teaching assignments, and rejuvenate your teaching experiences.

CBS Undergraduate Student Poster Day

The 16th annual College of Biological Science's Undergraduate Student Poster Day is open to any and all undergraduate students participating in summer research projects in Molecular and Cellular Biology, Integrative Biology and Human Health and Nutritional Sciences (through USRA, URA, co-ops, etc.).  Door prizes and a pizza lunch will be available for all poster presenters.  Register with Dr. Nina Jones' lab at ugposterday@gmail.com with your name and lab advisor by Aug. 8.

Guelph Bug Day

​Guelph Bug Day  is organized and run by graduate students to celebrate insects in the natural and human world. This one-day event is targeted at families and students but attracts a diverse community of insect enthusiasts. It aims to instil a love, curiosity, and appreciation for insects through a variety of activities, including guided insect hikes, aquatic insect pools, insect-themed craft tables, information and display booths, live insect zoos, and other insect-themed events and workshops.

Ontario Cell Biology Symposium

The Ontario Cell Biology Symposium brings together researchers from around the province with the aim of creating new research opportunities and fostering new collaborations. The event will cover important topics in cell biology, including signal transduction, metabolism, organelles, cellular architecture, cellular trafficking and advanced microscopy, with a portion of the meeting dedicated to translational studies and emerging methodologies.

CBS Summer BBQ

The CBS Annual Summer BBQ will be held on Wednesday, June 21. Catch up with old friends and meet new ones at our picnic-style gathering at the U of G Arboretum. The event starts at 1 p.m., with opening remarks by Dr. Maz Fallah, Dean of CBS, at 1:45 p.m. The CBS Teaching Awards will also be presented. Bring a blanket and grab a spot to enjoy some tasty food with your CBS community!

Centre for Ecosystem Management Symposium

This symposium is being organized to launch the new Centre for Ecosystem Management (CEM) at the University of Guelph. The goals of the symposium are to: 1) Introduce the CEM to the broader community of researchers, managers, stakeholder groups, and the broader public within and outside of the Great Lakes basin 2) Begin building partnerships and collaborations with this broader community For questions regarding the conference programming, contact rlmclaug@uoguelph.ca. More information will be provided soon.

The University of Guelph is pleased to host a second Pathway to Increase Standards and Competency of eDNA Surveys (PISCeS) International Conference on June 18-20, 2023. Academia, regulators, industry, NGO’s, and Indigenous partners are invited to join in a discussion on Pathways to Increase Standards and competency of Environmental DNA Surveys. The intent of the conference is to explore and inform public policy, industry strategies and future research on eDNA.

Join us for the launch of the Wild Ontario x Royal City Brewing Community Collab Beer! Wild Ontario, based in the College of Biological Science’s Department of Integrative Biology, is thrilled to announce a collaboration with Guelph’s Royal City Brewing Co. 50 cents from every can purchased of the Community Collab beer supports Wild Ontario, which works with live raptors and student volunteers to teach about nature and conservation, both on-campus and in the community.
