CBS Info Session: How the New Research Security Guidelines Will Affect Researchers in the Life Sciences

The new federal guidelines on research security released last week have broad implications for those working in the life sciences, including many of us here in CBS. The new requirements will apply to anyone applying for federal funding starting May 1, 2024 and are in addition to the research security requirements that have already rolled out for provincially funded research programs.

In collaboration with the Guelph Institute of Development Studies and the Canada India Research Centre for Learning and Engagement, the One Health Institute is delighted to welcome Dr. Andrew Flachs, associate professor of anthropology at Purdue University, as its next One Health Seminar Series speaker. Dr. Flachs will speak about Social Reproduction and One Health on the Farm: Feeding the World as if People Mattered. 

MCB Seminar Series: The immune system's role as a coroner of dying cancer cells

Dr. Samuel Workenhe, assistant professor in the Department of Pathobiology at Ontario Veterinary College, will be presenting the Immune System's Role as a Coroner of Dying Cancer Cells. Workenhe is a veterinarian and cancer researcher investigating how dying cells regulate immunity. He started his lab at the University of Guelph in 2020. Prior to that, he was a postdoctoral fellow at McMaster University, where he studied the therapeutic uses of activating desirable cancer cell death.

The CBS Majors Showcase will highlight all the majors offered within the college, including through Human Health and Nutritional Science, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Integrative Biology, and provide practical information, such as the differences between majors, required courses, future careers, and info on how to change majors.

One Health Seminar Series: Community-centered Conservation and One Health in Action: the Jane Goodall Institute’s Work

Marie Meloche, the director of the Jane Goodall Institute of Canada, has worked with grassroots organizations, local and international NGOs in Canada and the Middle East before joining the Jane Goodall Institute team in 2018. As the Programs Manager, she supports the implementation of community-centered conservation projects in Africa and Canada. She believes that the key to sustainable development is to build meaningful partnerships with communities and local actors, with women at the center of the locally led development strategies.

HHNS Seminar Speaker: Leveraging Dietary Bioactive Interaction for Improved Delivery

Dr. Rachel Kopec, associate professor of human nutrition at the Department of Human Sciences at Ohio State University, will be presenting on "Leverage Dietary Bioactive Interactions for Improved Delivery," as part of the Department of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences' Seminar Speaker Series.
