Lang students explore the creative side of business, redefine marketing

Last week, Lang students from the Marketing Management Students’ Association (MMSA) hosted their first event of the year, which focused on breaking the status quo and redefining what a career in marketing looks like.

The event, Creative Connections, was a twist on the traditional workshop or networking night and welcomed more than 100 students from across Lang and other programs to hear from a panel of speakers about their perspectives on the marketing industry.

Lang sport institute hosts think tank with sport business industry leaders

The International Institute for Sport Business and Leadership (IISBL) welcomed sport business leaders to campus last week for the second annual Think Tank, an event that brings together the Institute’s executive advisory board with student researchers, faculty and partners.

The IISBL is a global centre for research and teaching that bridges the gap between scholars and industry. The Institute launched last year through a collaboration between the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics and the Department of Athletics at the University of Guelph.

Student-run conference on sustainability with shot at guaranteed job interviews

Over the weekend, Lang business students welcomed over 100 student delegates at the Lang Sustainability Conference, the largest student-run conference at the University of Guelph.

The conference invited delegates from across Canada for an immersive three-day experience focused on exploring and discussing business solutions to the social, environmental and economic challenges facing the world. Delegates included students from the University of Guelph and seven other Canadian universities.

Lang professor receives award for teaching innovation and excellence

Congratulations to Lang professor Kathleen Rodenburg on receiving a 2019 Distinguished Professor Award for Excellence in Teaching from the University of Guelph Faculty Association (UGFA).

The Distinguished Professor Award for Excellence in Teaching is an annual award that recognizes up to seven U of G faculty for their outstanding contribution to teaching and learning. UGFA announced the winners last month, which included six other faculty members from across the University.

Lang students raise money in support of breast cancer research

Last month, Lang students from the Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management Student Association hosted their annual Think Pink fundraiser, raising money in support of breast cancer research and awareness.

The fundraiser included a photobooth, silent auction and cupcake sales, which raised $931 for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

Researchers of all disciplines collaborate to tackle environmental issues

The launch of a new institute at the University of Guelph will enable researchers from all disciplines to tackle the world’s environmental problems through innovation and interdisciplinary collaborations.

The Guelph Institute for Environmental Research (GIER) will build on the University’s expertise in the environment and sustainability by bringing together researchers from all U of G disciplines, from business and engineering to fine arts and biology.
