Professor and students explore impact of sustainable tourism in Nepal

Hundreds of thousands of international tourists visit the small South Asian country of Nepal each year to experience its many historical sites and take in the Himalayas. It is most widely known as the main entry point to Mount Everest where thrill seekers risk life and limb to climb to the summit. There is no doubt that these tourism dollars are important to Nepal’s economy, but a growing effort is being made to extend Nepalese tourism beyond traditional excursions and expeditions.

BComm students to present downsizing research at national conference

Decision-making practices surrounding downsizing need careful planning and consideration for those losing their jobs as well as survivors - those remaining in the affected organization. Later this month, three Bachelor of Commerce students – Michelle Douglas, Erica Wortley and Rachelle Phillips – will present research on this issue at the Canadian Industrial Relations Association (CIRA) Conference in Toronto in front of fellow researchers and industry professionals from across Canada.

Researchers link historical records to pressing social questions at research workshop

What was the impact of the first social welfare program? Which kinds of households were at greatest risk during the 1918 influenza epidemic? The answers to these economic and social questions and many others are being answered by data contained in historical records such as marriage certificates, medical records and military records.

Student-run conference lets high school students experience life at U of G

This coming May, high school students will have the opportunity to experience university life as part of the Students Engaging, Educating and Developing other Students (SEEDS) Conference at the University of Guelph. The two-day event, which is being organized by 18 Bachelor of Commerce students as part of their senior-level business course in leadership and communication, is expected to draw business-minded high school student delegates from across southwestern Ontario to engage in fun and interactive learning.
