About the candidate:
Kathleen has decades of service in community organizations and most recently served as a board member with the Truro Farmers’ Market Cooperative, with the Living Earth Council and as the chair of Engage Colchester-Truro and as a member of several advisory committees to the Town and County. She enjoys living where she can easily ride her bike and walk about town and make frequent connections with people and places.
Kathleen seeks to discover more about rural well-being, sustainable food systems and the art and science of mindfulness. She currently is the Director of Dalhousie’s Rural Research Centre and an Associate Professor. She applies her background in community development and social psychology in her teaching of leadership and social change, and human relations and conflict resolution and systems analyses.
She held a post-doctoral fellowship with United Nations University, where she facilitated initiatives around sustainable development, and Education for All. For several years she was a Project Manager for Ontario’s Ministry of Citizenship and Ministry of Community & Social Services where she facilitated opportunities for community development and social inclusion. She also has insights into the private sector from a decade of managing her own consulting and psychotherapy service.
