Capacity Development & Extension Career Pathways Speaker Series

Upcoming speaker and CDE Alumnus: Aleisha Apang, Advisor, Peel Poverty Reduction Strategy

Aleisha Apang is a CDE graduate whose thesis focused on understanding the barriers and motivations surrounding HIV testing among women in Trinidad and Tobago. Her research goal was to identify ways to motivate more women to access the service. Her M.Sc. experience has translated to multiple positions in the social service and public health fields. Among those experiences is as a Research and Evaluation Coordinator for Alberta Health Services. In this position she was responsible for coordinating the evaluation of a large-scale provincial project. She then worked for the Government of Alberta as a Strategic Evaluation Analyst. From there, she returned to Ontario and took on a role as a Specialist in Strategic Planning, Management and Evaluation with the Region of Peel and eventually became the Advisor for the Peel Poverty Reduction Strategy. Her breadth of real-world experience perfectly qualifies her to help teach current students how she has worked to address pressing issues with readily perceivable impacts. Aleisha will present lessons learned through her career journey since graduation and how the CDE program prepared her for work in poverty reduction
