Four University of Guelph graduate students (three from the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development, and one from Geography) were selected to participate in the inaugural Research Methods for South Asia Field School hosted by the Third World Studies Center, University of the Philippines in Manila, and co-taught with colleagues from the University of Montreal. This twenty-student course provided an opportunity to learn new and innovative approaches to conducting more engaged and meaningful scholarship with rights and stakeholders in the region. It lasted one week consisting of in-class and fieldwork at remote sites with community partners. This was the culmination of five years of work undertaken by the Global Minerals Local Communities Project, funded by a SSHRC Insight Grant held by co-principal investigators, Professors Sheri Longboat and Nicolas Brunet.
