Prof. Cecelia Paine Receives the OALA “Pinnacle Award for Landscape Architectural Excellence”

The Ontario Association of Landscape Architects “Pinnacle Award for Landscape Architectural Excellence” was presented to Professor Cecelia Paine on April 1, 2016 at the OALA AGM and Conference at the Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls, Ontario.  This prestigious award recognizes an OALA member for their professional work.  It singles out specific projects to draw attention to a body of work which demonstrates outstanding professional accomplishment.

April is World Landscape Architecture Month

April is World Landscape Architecture Month (WLAM).  Canadian landscape architects join their colleagues internationally to celebrate the profession.  One way to celebrate is showcasing landscape architect-designed spaces around the world through social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook etc.) by taking photos with the “Designed by a Landscape Architect” card and adding the hashtag #WLAM2016.

2016 MLA Conference to be held at March 28 at the Arboretum Centre

Join us for the Masters of Landscape Architecture Conference on Monday, March 28th, 2016. It is a day of landscape architecture thesis presentations that provide an insight into contemporary research by final semester graduate students.

Location: OAC Centennial Arboretum Centre (Arboretum Road, off College Ave E.)
Time: 10:00 am until 4:00 pm.

MLA student will take research survey to Canada Blooms to determine plant preferences

Master of Landscape Architecture student, Laura Williams, checks plants she is growing in order to test the performance and viability of lawn alternatives. As part of her MLA thesis research, Laura will survey visitors at Canada Blooms to determine their plant preferences. Canada Blooms will be held in Toronto from March 11 - 20th, 2016 at the Direct Energy Centre at Exhibition Place.

Cullen Scholarship Awarded to MLA student, Scott Cafarella

Congratulations to Scott Cafarella who received the Cullen Scholarship for 2015 in the amount of $2,000.  Scott is a third year Master of Landscape Architecture student in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development.

BLA Alumnus, Paul Brydges Named President of Landscape Ontario

Paul Brydges became the first practicing landscape architect to hold the position of president of Landscape Ontario, officially beginning his two-year mandate at the horticultural association’s annual general meeting January 13, 2016.  Brydges is a graduate of the University of Guelph’s bachelor of landscape architecture program and serves as the principal and senior architect at Brydges Landscape Architecture in Guelph.

MLA Student Awarded 2016 LACF Grant

The Landscape Architecture Canada Foundation (LACF) announced the recipients of its 2016 grants in support of research, communication and scholarship.   

Master of Landscape Architecture student, Emily French received a $2,000 grant for her thesis research on "Designing Seismic Resilient Landscapes".
