News related to Landscape Architecture

When Hamilton's McQuesten Neighbourhood Association contacted OAC to help create an urban farm, Professor Karen Landman and the Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) design studio responded by creating a visioning workshop for the project. City staff, residents and students worked together to generate ideas for a seven-acre 'food park' that includes community gardens, learning opportunities for schoolchildren, a community oven, an aboriginal garden, a market garden, a picnic area and a dedicated area for a full-time farmer.

Thanks to donations from the Libro Credit Union and OAC alumni George and Lorna Roberts and George and Geri Klosler a total of one million dollars has been raised in support of the Libro Professorship in Regional Economic Development for Southwestern Ontario. The School of Environmental Design and Rural Development looks forward to embarking upon a search to fill this position.

The Landscape Architecture Programs at the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development announce the annual Evidence Based Landscape Architecture Lecture for 2015.

Emily McCoy will speak on "Integrative Research at Andropogon Associates:  Practising Evidence-based Landscape Architecture" on Monday, October 5, 2015 at Lakeside Downtown Church, 75 Norfolk Street, Guelph, Ontario.  Lecture will begin at 7:00 pm.  Free admission and all welcome to attend.

Professor Nathan Perkins, Professor in the Landscape Architecture programs, School of Environmental Design and Rural Development is the recipient of the 2015 Distinguished Teaching Award presented by the OAC Alumni Association.  The presentation of this award will be at the annual OAC Community BBQ hosted on September 15, 2015 from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm.  All welcome to attend.  

This award recognizes the importance of effective teaching of faculty who play a significant role in the education of OAC students.

For a weekend celebration of 50 years of landscape architecture at the University of Guelph, join us on Homecoming weekend in the LA Building (and throughout campus), for re-connection/celebration event activities beginning on the evening of Friday, September 18th, continuing through to the morning of Sunday, September 20th, 2015.  The Gala will feature special guest speaker Paul Hawken.  Alumni, students and guests are all welcome!

Guelph's landscape architecture programs are celebrating "50 years of landscape architecture at Guelph" during this year's Homecoming Weekend (September 18 - 20, 2015) with a special weekend-long event and an online project recognizing its notable alumni.

The BLA and MLA programs at the University of Guelph have been putting out some fairly significant golf course architects over the last 40 years, and being within the Ontario Agricultural College really helps,” said Professor Sean Kelly in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development. “We teach, research, and publish quality golf content from our program, as we are likely emerging as leaders in a comprehensive education related to golf environments.

Congratulations to our recent graduating students who received awards at the OAC Convocation Awards Luncheon.

The Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA) Prize was presented to Bachelor of Landscape Architecture graduating student, Sara de Korte, by past CSLA president Prof. Cecelia Paine, FCSLA, OALA. The Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) recipient, Nathan Langley, was not able to attend.

The University of Guelph’s Landscape Architecture programs are celebrated for creating some of the very best graduates of landscape architecture in the world – 2015 marks 50 years of landscape architecture at Guelph.  Tracking an alumni base of +1500, many indicate a special connection with their time at Guelph, the Ontario Agriculture College, the Landscape Architecture building and, specifically, its ‘studio’ learning spaces; it’s time to honour these connections.
