At the University of Guelph, we approach health from a holistic perspective encompassing physical, mental, and social well-being. Originally piloted through the Wellness@Work grant program, Athletics now offers an on-campus staff and faculty pickleball league. This league, led by Adam Bailey, offers a chance for folks to have a brain break from work, while enjoying physical activity and camaraderie with campus colleagues in a safe and inclusive environment. Games are offered over the noon hour, and participants play once a week for 30 minutes.

Here are some things past participants have said:

  • “Such a fun year for me to have this in my weekly schedule! The brain break is much appreciated, and it was so great to learn a new sport!”

  • “Community building through the league is easy as Adam assesses the skill of players to create fair and competitive match-ups, while chatting with players before and after games to receive their feedback and make connections between staff. His continued work is supporting an amazing staff and community experience on campus.”

  • “Having pickleball as recreational outlet has been a game changer for me.”

  • “So fun!  It has been great getting to know campus colleagues through pickleball.  It has created connections that make picking up the phone to collaborate and solve problems easier.  Thank you!”

Mark your calendars!  Registration for the fall session opens on Monday August 25th and this fall there will be a beginner, intermediate, and advanced league. Register on the Athletics event page or at Client Services in the Athletics Centre.
