School of Environmental Design and Rural Development - Landscape Architecture MLA Master's Thesis Examination Ramtin Shafaghati, a master of landscape architecture candidate in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development, will defend his thesis on "Integrating Machine Learning and Interactive Prototyping for Adaptive Public Space Design."

Paul Anim, an MSc student in Capacity Development and Extension in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development, will defend their thesis on “Sustainable Energy Solutions for Greenhouse Agriculture: The Role of Ag Energy Co-operative Limited to Producers in Ontario’s Vegetable Sector." Elizabeth Goguen, an MSc student in Capacity Development and Extension in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development, will defend their thesis on “Repurposing for Equity: Affordable Housing in Reimagined Spaces on Barton Street East in the City of Hamilton.”

The Ontario Professional Planners Institute invites you to an upcoming panel discussion designed specifically for rural planning and development students interested in pursuing a career in planning.

Sarah Douglas, a MSc candidate in the Capacity Development and Extension program in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development, will defend their thesis on “Motivations and Experiences in Southern Ontario Field-Grown Specialty Cut-Flower Growers."

SEDRD is hosting an Introductory GIS for the Planning Profession workshop on April 15th, organized by Prof. Mollie Kuchma, Professor in Rural Planning and Development. Summary of some of the topics that will be covered includes: 

Zoe Kiang, a MSc student in Capacity Development and Extension in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development, will defend their thesis on “Incentivizing Toronto Green Standards:  A Study of Policy Design, Systems, and Participation in Urban Development."

The SEDRD Graduate Student Society is excited to announce that the annual Rural Romp will be hosted on April 7th from 9:30 am - 4:30 pm. Join us for a day filled with engaging speaker presentations and site visits to gain new perspectives on SEDRD and rural Ontario. Participation in this event is free, and lunch will be provided.  Guest Speakers:  

The fourth-year Bachelor of Landscape Architecture students will be holding a public display of their final design projects for the LARC*4710 Capstone Design Studio course. These projects were advised by instructors Prof. Nadia Amoroso and Chen Zixiang. Special thanks to guest studio critics:  Ken Yee Chew, Shawn Watters and Nick Onody. Family, friends, city staff, industry professionals, and the public are welcome to attend.

The Rural Symposium is an annual opportunity for University of Guelph graduate students to showcase their rural research to staff from the provincial government, rural community leaders, businesses, and researchers. The event facilitates knowledge mobilization and network building between graduate students at the University of Guelph, rural communities, governments, and businesses.
