Ever wondered how to deliver an effective presentation or design a poster for a conference? On January 15th, a capacity building session will be held from 12:00 - 1:00 pm in the LA Pit with Shannon Brown. The session will identify best practices for designing posters, discuss how to effectively share findings, and demonstrate why plain language is critical. The session is being organized in preparation for the upcoming 2020 Rural Symposium however, anyone interested is welcome to attend the session.

The Rural Symposium is an annual opportunity for University of Guelph graduate students to showcase their rural research to policy makers, policy analysts, and program staff from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA). The event facilitates knowledge mobilization and network building between graduate students at the University of Guelph, researchers, and OMAFRA . The 2020 Rural Symposium will take place on February 5, 2020, from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm at the Conference Centre at 1 Stone Road in Guelph. 

School of Environmental Design and Rural Development - Landscape Architecture MLA Master's Thesis Examination Kendra Cheeseman, a master of landscape architecture candidate in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development, will defend her thesis on "Disability, Walks and My Neighbourhood:  Experiencing the Urban Environment and Climate Crisis as a Person with Dysautonomia”.

The deadline for graduate students to apply to attend the 2020 International Comparative Rural Policy (ICRPS) Summer Institute in Brandon, Manitoba is December 1, 2019. The School of Environmental Design and Rural Development's Winter Social Party will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019 at the Italian Canadian Club.  This event is for all graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, sessionals, staff and their guests in SEDRD (including Landscape Architecture, Rural Planning and Development, Capacity Development and Extension, and Rural Studies).   Doors open at 6:30 pm with dinner commencing at 7:00 pm.  Tickets are $40 each and include a full-course buffet dinner, prizes, DJ and dancing.  Cash Bar (bring your ID)
