School of Environmental Design and Rural Development - Landscape Architecture MLA Master's Thesis Examination Joel Sypkes, a master of landscape architecture candidate in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development, will defend his thesis on "Engaging Ecologies: A Design Framework for Resilient and Immersive Bioretention Plantings".

Orientation for new graduate students starting in Winter 2021 semester to the MSc in Rural Planning and Development (RPD) and the MPlan is scheduled for December 15, 2020 from 1.00-2.00 pm EST. Orientation will be held online. Further details and a hyperlink will be provided closer to the event date via your UofG email address.  

The Rural Planning and Development program is hosting a virtual town hall meeting with all current RPD students on December 15 from 12.00-1.00 pm EST. The meeting is an opportunity to check-in, receive program updates, discuss upcoming opportunities, celebrate achievements in the fall semester, and ask your questions. Pam Duesling, a PhD student in Rural Studies in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development, will be presenting her Qualifying Exam on "The Impacts of On-Farm Diversification to the Family Farm and the Intersection of Land Preservation through Public Policy in Ontario".

Amanda Hutter, a master student in Capacity Development and Extension in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development, will defend her thesis on "Braiding knowledge:  Creating an environmental communications process for Farmers and Anishinaabe Using Drones".

Join Walter H. Kehm on November 24 at 7:00 pm for his book launch titled 'Accidental Wilderness: The Origins and Ecology of Toronto's Tommy Thompson Park'. Once referred to as Toronto’s "accidental wilderness,” Tommy Thompson Park is now recognized as an urban miracle.  Initially created as a landfill site, the park has grown dramatically. Forests, grasslands, and wildlife now thrive – all steps from the most densely populated areas of North America’s fourth-largest city.
