Throughout the Winter 2026 semester, graduate students in Professor Mollie Kuchma’s RPD*6280 Advanced Planning Practice class undertook group projects, partnering with municipalities throughout the Province. There were seventeen proposals submitted and students chose seven projects to complete.  Three groups were invited to present their projects to the respective municipal councils.

Grey County:

On April 23, 2026, Negin Bamoueifard, Bailey Cole and Ashley Feeney presented their research on Best Management Practices for Rural Event Venues in Grey County. The research project examined best practices for regulating rural event venues in Grey County, in response to increasing interest in uses such as wedding venues, agri-tourism destinations and rural event spaces. While these uses present opportunities to support farm viability, diversify the rural economy and enhance tourism, they also introduce planning challenges related to land use compatibility, servicing and policy clarity.

Through a review of Provincial and local policy, as well as case studies from other municipalities, recommendations were provided to assist as a resource to inform future planning policy recommendations.

The presentation can be viewed beginning at 1:15:02 at the Grey County previous recordings link.

Town of Meaford:

On May 11, 2026, Maija Bilic, Ning (Heather) Ding and Emily Jefferies presented their research on a Public Art Master Plan for the Town of Meaford. The project provides a framework to guide how public art is planned, supported and implemented in the Town of Meaford. Based on a policy review, site analysis and community input, the research project provides key recommendations that support a thoughtful, place-based public art master plan that reflects Meaford’s identity and improves how public spaces are experienced.

The presentation can be viewed beginning at 9:35 at the following Meaford Council YouTube link.

Town of Saugeen Shores:

On May 19, 2026, Mark Fisher and Hasti Nateghi (group member Yael Wargel was unable to attend), presented their research on Settlement Boundary Expansions in Saugeen Shores. The research project examined considerations for future privately-initiated settlement area expansions, which plays a considerable role in shaping how growth is experienced across the municipality. Through a review of demographic analysis, tourism and housing data, servicing and infrastructure information, interviews, a policy review, and comparison with other municipalities, recommendations were made highlighting the importance of demonstrated need, servicing capacity and long-term planning alignment when considering expansion requests.

The presentation can be viewed beginning at 2:04:50 at the following Town of Saugeen Shores YouTube link.
