Lorena Barker Honoured with OAC Outstanding Staff Award

The School of Environmental Design and Rural Development is delighted to celebrate Lorena Barker, recipient of the Ontario Agricultural College’s 2026 Award for Outstanding Staff. The award recognizes Lorena’s exceptional service, professionalism, and commitment to the University of Guelph community.

As a Graduate Program Assistant, Lorena is the primary point of contact for more than 180 students in the Capacity Development and Extension, Rural Planning and Development, and Rural Studies programs. She helps students navigate university processes, answers questions with patience and care, and works tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the programs running smoothly. Her knowledge, reliability, and calm approach make her a trusted resource for students, faculty, and staff.

Lorena’s contribution extends far beyond administration. She takes the time to make students feel welcomed, valued, and connected, and she has been especially supportive of international students adjusting to a new university and country. Her kindness and genuine concern for others have strengthened the sense of community within the School and improved the experiences of countless students.
