Latin American Art Collections Worldwide

The topic for discussion is “Latin American Art Collections Worldwide” and will be discussed historically on a global front. Yet to understand the topic, it is necessary to first understand what a collection is.  A collection is group of objects or works to be seen, studied or kept together (American Heritage dictionary).  However, there is still another aspect to a collection.  A collection is the act of collecting (Random House dictionary).

Centro de Arte y Comunicación (CAYC)

In fact the Centro de Arte y Comunicación, often referred to as the CAYC, is a place. The Center in Buenos Aires, Argentina was established in August of 1968 as a multidisciplinary workshop with the help of the long-time Director of the Center for Art and Communication, Jorge Glusberg. Daniel R.

Trauma as a Challenge to Representation

Trauma is a theme common to artistic practices in Latin American countries. It became so as a response to environments of dictatorship and military control1. Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay experienced military upheaval within the years of 1964-1976 and it radicalized artist’s objectives towards political content (Goldman 249).

Memory as a (Faulty) Representational Apparatus

The impact of memory on the production of Latin American art is essentially a question of identity. Memory and a sense of history help to establish identity on many levels: for a greater Latin American context, for a nation, for an ethnic group, for a displaced people, or for an individual artist.
