Women's Voices from the Archives

Margot Irvine is an associate professor of French and European Studies and is the Coordinator of the Erasmus-Mundus Masters "Crossways in Cultural Narratives". She directs a research project entitled "Prizes, Juries and Prestige: The Creation of the Prix Femina" (funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council). Her recent publications are articles and book chapters about the women who sat on the first jury the Prix Femina (especially Julia Daudet, Judith Cladel and Myriam Harry). Risques et regrets, les dangers de l'écriture épistolaire, a book she edited with Karin Schwerdtner and Geneviève de Viveiros, will be published by Éditions Nota bene (Montreal) in early 2015.

The University of Guelph resides on the land of the Between the Lakes Treaty No. 3, the territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit. This land is part of the Dish with One Spoon, a covenant between Indigenous nations to live peaceably on the territories of the Great Lakes region. We recognize that today this gathering place is home to many First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples and acknowledging them reminds us of our collective responsibility to the land where we learn, live and work.
