Studies Show a Growing Demand for Ethno-Cultural Vegetables in the Greater Toronto Area

SEDRD Students Seek the Welfare and Improve Access to Health Services in Guelph

Graduate students in the Capacity Development and Extension program are working hard to contribute to a cause that the Guelph Community has been fighting for the last few months regarding the relocation of the Pacemaker Clinic to Kitchener, Ontario.  CDE students were brought together by the Community Environmental Leadership class with a mission to seek the welfare and improve the health of hundreds of pacemaker patients, their families and of Guelph residence.

SEDRD Research by Glen Filson Profiled in Toronto Star

The Toronto Star highlighted an article on the research with Professor Glen Filson, Capacity Development and Extension program; SEDRD Adjunct Professor, Bamidele Adekunle; and CDE alumni, Sridharan Sethuratnam from the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development at the University of Guelph.  The research focuses on determining the demand for ethno-cultural vegetables in the Greater Toronto Area.

SEDRD To Attend Global Forum for Rural Advisory Services Meeting in Berlin

SEDRD is engaged with United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization’s annual flagship publication known as The State of Food and Agriculture (SOFA). Each year it has a thematic focus on a major topic of importance for agricultural, rural development and food security. The topic of the 2014 edition of the SOFA is “Agricultural innovation in family farming for sustainable rural development”. SOFA consultations will include a presentation to the Global Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services, the apex association for agricultural extension.

SEDRD Contributes to Smallholder Agriculture

SEDRD faculty member, Helen Hambly, will be in the Democratic Republic of Congo in early July to collaborate with College d'Alfred's project "Makala Renouvelable-DRC" which works local partners in Ibi-village to support smallholder agriculture and forestry for poverty reduction. DRC has one of the lowest Gross Domestic Project (GDP) per capita in the world, but has some of Africa's most extensive natural resources.
