John Galt Roundtable

On April 5, The Centre for Scottish Studies is holding a John Galt Roundtable to discuss the life and contributions of John Galt, Scottish novelist, founder of Guelph, and from 1826 to 1829, the first Commissioner of the Canada Company.

2011 Spring Colloquium

The 2011 Spring Colloquium took place in Knox College at the University of Toronto.

The morning talks focused on Scots in the Atlantic World. Dr Femi J. Kolapo, from the University of Guelph, presented a talk on “Scottish Explorers, Missionaries and Colonial Agents in West Africa." Ms Nadine Hunt, from the University of Guelph-Humber, gave a talk titled, “Scottish Trade Development in the Caribbean World via Jamaica, 1746-1800."

The lineup for the 2011 Fall Colloquium included the Historiographer Royal of Scotland, Professor T.C. Smout, who presented the annual Jill McKenzie Lecture, with a talk titled "Exploring the environmental history of the Firth of Forth."
