Current Research

  • Improvisation, Community, and Social Practice is an international research project that examines the aesthetic and social implications of this, the most widespread of musical practices.
  • Sounds Provocative: experimental music performance in Canada is an ethnographic research project comparing eleven sites of experimental music performance across Canada.
  • In and Out of the Sound Studio is a multi-university project exploring women, gender and sound technology.

  • Critical Studies in Improvisation/tudes critiques en improvisation is an online, peer reviewed, open access, interdisciplinary journal which examines the social impact of improvisational music: http://www.criticalimprov.com.
