Upcoming Summer Awards

A great opportunity for students to apply for the following scholarships and travel grant.  The application deadline is May 15th for all.

CARA Scholarship [I0881]  $1000

Apply to the HFTM Awards Committee (hftaward@uoguelph.ca) by May 15 with a resume outlining experience and up to a one page statement explaining interest and passion for the hospitality industry. Selection will be based on demonstrated experience in the hospitality field and a passion for the Food & Beverage industry as evidenced by a resume and up to a one page statement explaining interest and passion for the hospitality industry.

Students registered in the Hospitality & Tourism major of the B.Comm. program who have completed a minimum of 10.0 credits.


CMESA/CBESA Student Leader Scholarship [I0895]  $1000

Volunteer activities may include but are not limited to holding a council position on CMESA executive or management teams, Board of Directors, Student Senator, Accredited Student Organizations (ASO) or a College of Business and Economics affiliate club. Selection will be based on contributions to college-related activities. Apply to the CBE Awards Committee (cbe.awards@uoguelph.ca) by May 15 with a one page letter outlining volunteer/leadership experience within the college.

Full-time students registered in any program offered by the College of Business and Economics who have completed a minimum of 4.0 credits and can demonstrate involvement in college-related volunteer/leadership activities.


Elizabeth M. (Betty) Upton Memorial Travel Grant [T0366] $500

Student who demonstrates the greatest financial need for travel to a recognized University of Guelph study abroad, exchange or letter of permission activity outside Canada, or to attend a relevant professional conference, or to collect research date for a thesis or major paper. Students must have completed two or more semesters in an undergraduate program offered by the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management , and must be in good academic standing. The project or conference must occur within 12 months.

Apply by letter, by May 15, to the HFTM Awards Committee (hft@uoguelph.ca) describing the travel, the expected benefit and including a budget and any expected sources of funding.

Fairmont Hotels and Resorts Scholarship [I0833] 2@$1000

The Fairmont Hotels and Resorts Scholarships support upper year students who intend to pursue a career in the hotel hospitality field. Selection will be based on the student who best demonstrates how the values of respect, integrity, teamwork and empowerment are reflected in their education and experience to date. Apply to the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management Awards Committee (hft@uoguelph.ca) by May 15 with a resume listing such experiences, as well as a one to two page essay outlining your interest in the hotel hospitality field, and how the values of respect, integrity, teamwork and empowerment are reflected in your education and experience to date.

Students registered in any program offered by the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management who have completed at least 10.00 credits and have completed hospitality-related employment, co-op education placements or extracurricular or volunteer activities.

FARMHOUSEhospitality Entrepreneurship Scholarship [I0863] $1000

The scholarship will be awarded to the student whose entrepreneurial experience is most creative, addressing a unique need in the Canadian hospitality/tourism marketplace. Apply to the HFTM Awards Committee (htf@uoguelph.ca) by May 15 with a current resume and a one-page description of entrepreneurial experience, including the date the venture was launched. In the case of a tie, the scholarship will be awarded to the entrepreneurial venture that was most recently launched.

Students registered in any major offered by the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management who have completed at least 5.0 credits and have personal experience as an entrepreneur, either current or past, which may include either of the following:

 i. Self-employment as a hospitality/tourism small-business operator;

ii. Partnership with an equity position in a hospitality/tourism small-business.
