OHI Founder Charles Grieco Receives Honorary Doctorate

A University of Guelph Honorary Doctorate was presented to Charles Grieco during convocation on Tuesday, June 10th at the 9:00 a.m. ceremony.  

The Canadian hospitality industry has been significantly impacted by Charles Grieco. His restaurant La Scala set a new standard for fine cuisine and dining in Toronto and over its 35 years of operation was a benchmark for all other restaurants in Canada. He has led the Ontario Hostelry Institute since 1977 and is Managing Director of the Canadian Hospitality Foundation, helping to raise millions of dollars for student awards and support.  Mr. Grieco is recognized as a leading thinker on key issues facing the Canadian hospitality industry. He participated in the provincial commission that led to the formation of the Vintners Quality Alliance and is currently on the provincial committee developing a culinary tourism strategy for Ontario. Today's hospitality and tourism landscape is greatly influenced by his innovation and perseverance to ensure a promising future for young Canadians who choose this sector as a lifelong career.
